A fight Friday night involving 15 inmates resulted in a lockdown at Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown through at least Sunday, a public safety official said Tuesday.
Danielle Lueking, spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Communications Office, said several fights between inmates broke out at about 8:45 p.m. Friday in the recreational yard.
Correctional officers who were unable to stop the fighting by shouting, fired a rubber bullet into the ground to break up the inmates, Lueking said.
Seven inmates were treated at the prison for injuries that were not life-threatining, Lueking said. No correctional officers were injured, she said.
