Hagerstown High School class of 1951

The Hagerstown High School class of 1951 reunion committee has arranged an informal class luncheon Friday, Sept. 17, at the Mountain Gate Family Restaurant east of Waynesboro, Pa., on Pa. 16.

Members and guests will meet at 11 a.m.

Reservations are not required for the 59th anniversary.

The committee is trying to locate the following classmates: Doris Artz, Rosalie Baker, Mary Lou Chapman McClung, Rose Marie Feigley Robinson, Virginia Hook Corbin, Connie Lapole Howard, Luther Lupp Jr., Donald Mowen, Joy Osburn, Lawrence Rabasco, Judy Rose Wheaton, Anna M. Schulte Huber, Mary Jane Smith, Lois Stevens, Richard Stone and Julia Maria Wolfe.

Barinda took the week's thinner-winner honors for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446.

Judy H. was the ha-ha box winner. Yvonne presented the program on the health benefits of water. Among other things, she said several illnesses are attributed to insufficient intake of water and gave the symptoms of dehydration. She concluded by discussing various types of water on the market.


Cynthia will lead the awards day program at the next meeting.

Meetings are Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a..m., with weigh-in at 8:45 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown.

TOPS 0077

TOPS Chapter 0077 had total losses for the week of 27 1/2 pounds.

The best TOPS losers were Cleo Burger and Bev Arvin.

The best KOPS losers were Mary Reid and Audrey Smith.

Winners of the get-r-done prize were Patsy Price for TOPS and Joan Budny for KOPS. The no-no snack this week is ice cream.

A play-money auction was held. Members earn play money each week during the year for losing weight, keeping a food sheet, presenting programs, having contests, bringing visitors/new members and participating in other club activities. An auction is held twice a year.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

Longmeadow Lions

The Longmeadow Lions Club will host 22W District Gov. Richard Liebno at its meeting Thursday. It will be Liebno's official visit to the club. He will present his agenda for the year. The meeting will be at Always Ron's beginning at 6:15 p.m. Guests are welcome.

NHHS class of 1965 planning reunion

The North Hagerstown High School class of 1965 reunion committee has planned a two-day 45th-year reunion celebration Friday, Sept. 17, and Saturday, Sept. 18.

On Sept. 17, a casual get-together is planned from 7 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion picnic pavilion, at 405 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown.

On Sept. 18, a buffet dinner/dance is planned at the Women's Club, 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown. Cocktails (cash bar) starting at 6 p.m. will be followed by dinner and dancing to music provided by a local DJ.

St. Mary School

Tuesday - Back-to- school night, 7 p.m. for elementary grades.

Wednesday - Picture day. Students can attend school out of uniform.

Last Man's Club

The Last Man's Club of World War II at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion in Hagerstown will hold its 57th annual meeting and memorial service Saturday, Sept. 25, in the dining room at the Legion home at 405 Northern Ave.

A short memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., followed by a meal.

A business meeting will be held after the meal.

Invitations are in the process of being mailed. Reservation cards are due by Sept. 17.

Concert planned

The Day Star singers will perform Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Church on Greencastle Pike in Cearfoss.

Refreshments will be served and a goodwill offering will be collected for the group during a short intermission. If you would like to make a contribution for cemetery maintenance, a basket will be placed in the front of the church.

Young at Heart

The Young at Heart group will meet Thursday at 11:45 a.m. at Dimensions on Alternate U.S. 40.

No reservations are required and new members are welcome.

Church service

Haven Lutheran Church has returned to its traditional service and communion at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays. There is fellowship and coffee after the service.

The community is invited to Haven Hallelujah Day, a Sunday kickoff for all Sunday from 10:45 a.m. to noon. There will be food, games and music. All are welcome to attend. Bring lawn chairs or blankets.

There will be Sunday school for preschool to adult with the classes starting Sunday, Sept. 19.
