Roadwork to cause closures

September 05, 2010

The City of Hagerstown provided the following information about road closures:

Weather permitting, beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, work crews from Slurry Pavers Inc. will begin sealing cracks in existing pavement as part of the city's Pavement Preservation Program. This work will be performed on Prospect Street between Church and South Walnut streets.

The work is expected to be completed at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The crack-sealing work is a mobile operation. The contractor will use flaggers, signs, cones and other devices to control traffic around the work zone.

At least one lane of traffic will be kept open to permit vehicles to pass around the construction equipment. Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zones on these streets.

Motorists are advised that traffic delays are likely, and that they should seek other routes away from the work area.

More information may be obtained by contacting the city's Department of Parks and Engineering at 301-739-8577, ext. 125.

The unit block of South Potomac Street will be closed to all traffic between Washington Street and Antietam Street on Saturday, Sept. 11, as The Maryland Theatre holds a 95th-anniversary celebration.

Beginning at 8 a.m., a detour route will be established to direct traffic around the closure via East Washington Street, South Mulberry Street and East Antietam Street. Motorists approaching the closure will encounter detour signs, barricades and other traffic control devices.

It is anticipated that the street will be reopened to traffic no later than 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the unit block of South Potomac Street while the closure is in effect.

More information may be obtained by calling the city's Department of Community and Economic Development at 301-739-8577, ext. 116 or ext. 183.
