WAYNESBORO, Pa. --Mary Patricia "Pat" Switzer Smith, 72, of Waynesboro, Pa., and formerly of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.

Born Tuesday, May 24, 1938, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Harold Switzer and the late Violet Alvina Maier Switzer.

Her husband of 54 years, Richard Fishack Smith, preceded her in death in January 2010.

Pat was a member of Smithsburg High School, class of 1956.

She was employed by the Washington County School Board for more than 30 years, retiring as a teacher's assistant from the Job Development Center.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg and the Red Hat Society.

She had a passion for bird watching and beautiful flowers. Her hobbies included bowling, gardening, crafts and sewing.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Donzella and companion, Gary Mahon, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kelly Humm of Smithsburg; one son, Kevin Smith and companion, Holly Bennett, of Smithsburg; one sister, Jen Lynn Hollingsworth and husband, Gary, of Smithsburg; one brother, Harold Marshall Switzer and wife, Shelva, of Clear Brook, Va.; four grandchildren, Dustin Humm, Derek Donzella, Kristen Humm and Taylor Smith; best friend, Cindy Bachtell; and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Nolan Switzer.

Services will be Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Richard G. Hembrock officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
