Clear Spring High School student Bethany A. Magner has been recognized for superior academic achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars.

Bethany maintains a 4.0 grade-point average in advanced placement and honors classes at Clear Spring High.

Bethany is an active member of the marching band and shared the role of co-captain for the color guard in the Blazer Band. She also plays flute and guitar.

She is a member of the History Club and plays softball in the spring.




FAIRFAX, Va. - Matthew "Matt" S. Barnhart of Greencastle, Pa., has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at George Mason University.

He is a freshman School of Management major.

He is the son of Mary Lou R. Barnhart and the late Steve Barnhart of Greencastle.




CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The following area residents were among more than 4,000 students receiving degrees from American Public University and American Military University at the schools' commencement at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

ALBANY, N.Y. - The following are students have graduated from Excelsior College:

Christian Novenario of Frederick, Md., earned a bachelor of science.

Melanie Sue Rodeheaver of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., earned an associate in applied science in nursing.




CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Shannon Lee Draper, a student at the University of Miami, earned placement on the provost's honor roll for the 2009 and 2010 fall and spring semesters.

Shannon is majoring in music theatre in the College of Arts and Sciences.

She is the daughter of Lee and Tina Draper and the granddaughter of Ike and Louise Draper of Williamsport.




Bethany Ferguson of Hagerstown has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

She will be honored during an induction convocation this fall on the campus of Towson University.

Bethany was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Towson.




ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The following area students received degrees this year from Elizabethtown College:

Emily Bauer of Shepherdstown, W.Va., graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education-behavior management.

Benjamin Brewer of Union Bridge, Md., graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communications.

Courtney Kistler of Waynesboro, Pa., graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education.

John Mackey of Chambersburg, Pa., graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in English-literature and religious studies.

Paige Tanner of Waynesboro graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communications.

Nicholas Ziobrowski of Chambersburg graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration-marketing.
