WILLIAMSPORT - Barney B. "B.B." Bullington of Homewood Retirement Community in Williamsport, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.

Born Feb. 3, 1911, in Axton, Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the son of the late Ira F. and Josie Davis Bullington.

Mr. Bullington was a 1929 graduate of Axton High School and a 1931 graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, Va.

He served 33 months in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in February 1946.

He retired from Consolidated Oil Co. in Lynchburg, Va., in 1977.

B.B. and Josephine Paisley were married Nov. 12, 1937, celebrating 72 years of marriage this past November. Mrs. Bullington is a resident of Homewood.


He was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church in Lynchburg, where he was a life deacon. He taught a men's Sunday school class for 17 years, and served on many committees, with a special interest in the properties committee.

As a member of the Lynchburg Host Lions Club for more than 50 years, he enjoyed having a perfect attendance record and was a Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bullington is survived by one son, Jerry, and his wife, Jenny, of Hagerstown, Md.; two grandchildren, Robert B. Bullington and his wife, Katie, of Richmond, Va., and Lynsey W. Rini and her husband, Robert, of Hilton Head, S.C.; two great-grandsons, Cyrus B. and Harper V. Bullington of Richmond; and one stepgreat-grandson, Sam Rini of Hilton Head.

He also is survived by one sister, Doris Wall, of Danbury, N.C.; and one brother, Roy O. Bullington of Collinsville, Va.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Overstreet of Roanoke.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 12, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg.

The burial service will be Monday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Ave., Lynchburg. A memorial service will follow at Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg. The Rev. Tom McCann and the Rev. Nick Habel will officiate.
