Big Brothers Big Sisters will hold a Biking Big For Littles Motorcycle Ride and Raffle Saturday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Municipal Stadium, 274 E. Memorial Blvd. in Hagerstown.

The event is cosponsored by the Hagerstown Suns.

The event will include a motorcycle ride, lunch, entertainment and the chance to win prizes. Tickets cost $20 per person. Entertainment will be provided by Staff Infection and a local bluegrass band.

Gates will open at 10 a.m. and the first rider will depart the stadium at 11 a.m. Participants will complete a 1 1/2-hour motorcycle ride. Riders will return to the stadium between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win a 2010 Ultra Limited Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The raffle tickets cost $20. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11. Participants need not be present to win.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will display and offer raffle tickets for the Harley-Davidson motorcycle at Valley Mall on Saturday and again on Friday, Sept. 10.

All proceeds will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

Preschool opens



Open Arms Christian Child Development Center has started its preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds for the school year. A meet and greet night for parents and students was held Monday. Classes began Tuesday.

Space is still available. Social Services subsidies are accepted. Open Arms is a ministry of Concordia Lutheran Church off Downsville Pike.

Carnival a success



The organizers of the Valley Grace Brethren Church Autism Change Carnival on Aug. 14 want to thank the community and area businesses for their support.

The money raised will go to Star Equestrian for its therapeutic horseback riding program. Children and adults with disabilities will benefit from the classes.

Yard sale



The South High Alumni Association will hold a community yard sale at the school Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those interested in reserving a space are asked to contact Christy Moser at 301-416-7681.

Parents of Washington County students, please be sure to note the following: Schools will be closed Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Schools will also be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 14, for Primary Election Day.
