SHARPSBURG -- A Hagerstown man was in critical condition Tuesday night at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the pickup truck he was driving on Burnside Bridge Road went off the road and crashed Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Jeffrey Allan Rehfeld, 45, was flown to Washington County Hospital and later flown to Shock Trauma, police and hospital officials said.

Rehfeld was traveling toward Sharpsburg in the 18300 block of Burnside Bridge Road at about 4:15 p.m. when the pickup truck went off the right side of the road, according to Deputy Scott Smith of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Rehfeld overcorrected, and the truck skidded across the road, hit an embankment and rolled at least once, Scott said.

Rehfeld was thrown from the truck, Scott said.
