Heritage beats Broadfording in four games

September 01, 2010

The Heritage Academy volleyball team had a hot performance to match a hot day Tuesday, winning on the road at Broadfording Christian Academy 25-12, 24-26, 25-12, 25-18 in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference volleyball match.

"We had great teamwork," Heritage coach Young-Sook Anderson said. "I feel that our team has the potential to have a very strong season. Our team is very young. We don't have any seniors."

Callie Butts had 20 assists, seven service points and six digs for Heritage Academy (2-0, 2-0).

"Our passing was accurate," Anderson said. "Callie was leading the team real well."

Kara Stamper had 10 kills, eight service points and six blocks for the Eagles.

Rachel Clarke had 13 service points, seven kills and six blocks, while Kathleen Kidd had 10 digs and eight service points for Heritage. Jessica Gaylor added 10 service points and five digs, while Stephanie O'Brien had nine service points.

"The two teams went at it," Broadfording coach Joe Cartwright said. "Heritage really played well, they did a good job of hitting against us. We played well in stretches, but we made a lot of mistakes. Heritage took advantage of their opportunities."

Clarke had a string of five service points during the first game to help Heritage build a 16-8 advantage.

Stamper served the final three points of the game for the Eagles, including a game-ending ace.

Heritage went on top by a 20-16 margin late in the second game and seemed headed for another victory.

But after a point on a sideout, Broadfording (1-1, 1-1) got four service points in a row from Ariann Litten to take the lead at 21-20. The Lions eventually put the game away on a service point by Kierra White.
