SMITHSBURG - The alumni groups from Smithsburg High School for the years 1916 to 1966 held a reunion at Smithsburg Veterans Park on Aug. 1.

Dinner was catered by the Mountain Gate Restaurant.

Despite the heat that day, a good day of fellowship was enjoyed by the group, which numbered about 290.

The group meets every three years.

The oldest members in attendance were Josef Bikle and Josephine (Kipe) Spielman from the class of 1936.

Photos of all the class groups were taken by Sid Miller.

The invocation was given by the Rev. Dick Masters from the class of 1943.

The reunion committee is chaired by Robert Geiser, class of 1950, and co-chaired by Charles Newcomer, class of 1949, who also served as master of ceremonies.

The reunion committee consists of about 15 graduates from various classes.

The reason the reunion is for the classes of 1916 to 1966 is because that is the years for the old Smithsburg High. The current school opened in 1967.
