Mail Call

August 30, 2010

"In the beginning God set forth principles that are unchangeable. He gave us laws and principles for our good. Laws can be changed but not principles. The definition of a principle: A primary or basic rule or doctrine, spoken into existence by God; the truth; the foundation for all other truths; a settled rule of action or conduct; unchangeable. God never made it a law that it must be 'one man, one woman'; He made it an unchangeable principle - period."

"Several Mail Callers seem to believe Chris Shank's hyperbole along with his uncompromising position will somehow deliver good things for Washington County and for you. You need a lesson in reality. Shank is first and foremost a servant of the Republican Party. As minority whip - minority, as in few among many - Shank's arrogant and uncompromising attitude has managed to make enemies of the entire Democrat majority ... which will now vote against anything with his name on it."

"I can't understand why Democrats, more Democrats don't run for county commissioners. We've had Republicans ever since I can remember, with a few Democrats here and there. They're always thinking about money. Look, they're allowing another development to be built around here, when they already know that the schools are overcrowded. But ching, ching, ching - money. When's it going to stop? When's enough people enough? Time to get some Democrats to be county commissioners, to stop the madness."

"Well, if you listen to the news, you'll see there were 70-some bodies found in Mexico, all centering around the illegal drug trade. Now my question's this. You people that think it's wrong to keep illegals out of this country, well, if you were in law enforcement, you could see the statistics. Most of our drugs come from our southern borders, which is along Mexico. ... Illegals need to be kept out of our country, and the ones that are here need to be removed, period."

"I find it very amusing that people keep calling in saying that the government should stay out of their business and their lives, but yet these are the very same people who don't work and are living off of the government."

"I'm calling to thank the person from Washington County for reporting and helping all cruelty to animals. Thank you very much for helping our little buddies."

"Calling about the Williamsport caller on Wednesday, Aug. 25, who's comparing the New York mosque near Ground Zero to putting a Burger King next to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. In my humble opinion, I think the caller should look up the difference between apples and oranges."

"I'm calling in reference to the letter to the editor by Donna Staggers. I just wanted to say what a well-written letter that Donna wrote. I did not have the privilege of knowing John Nevin Cook, but I live my life by faith, and Donna wrote this letter and I couldn't have written it any better. What a great letter, Donna, and God bless you. And God bless the family."

"If your cat has had an encounter with a snake and was bitten, the symptoms will be swelling and difficult breathing. Your pet may seem depressed, and not be moving very much. Also, his blink reflex may slow to almost nothing. If you suspect a snake bite, get your cat to the vet right away."

"I'm calling about the intersection of Edgewood Drive and Howell Road, or - and the lack of proper signage there, because people who drive out or who are on Howell Road and want to make a right turn, that's fine, but there are too many people who are making left turns, and the sign there is just so small I guess maybe they don't see it, but I travel that way every day, seeing very little - I have seen a lot of close calls."

"I beg to differ with you pro-lifers. You have young kids out there holding these horrific pictures of aborted fetuses, and that is a form of child abuse, letting them have those pictures to hold up for the whole town."

"Wall Street Journal had an editorial titled '$4.4 Trillion,' the amount that has been added in only 31 months to the 10-year spending baseline. As of 2005, just before Democrats took control, total federal spending was only $2.47 trillion. Even if all of the Bush- era tax cuts are repealed, the annual deficit in 2011 will still be $1.1 trillion, according to the CBO (Congressional Budget Office). Keep all this added spending in mind the next time President Obama talks about having inherited a budget mess. Stop voting for 'borrow and spend' politicians like Don Munson and John Donoghue."

"Simply, I read Mail Call since you started it. I find it boring; no answers, just complaints. Nobody answers anything. In other words, it's much ado about nothing."
