Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education will offer art classes in mediums such as chair caning, rug hooking, calligraphy and stained-glass art.
o "Learn the Heritage Craft of Chair Caning" is taught by HCC instructor Jo Lum of Living Waters Chair Caning. Students will learn how to restore items such as rocking chairs, footstools and dining room chairs through the art of seat weaving. Materials may be purchased from the instructor.
Students are asked to bring the following supplies: scissors, towel, measuring tape, bucket, pencil, a dozen clothespins and paper. Two sections of this course are offered. The first section meets on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Little Antietam Community Center, from Sept. 23 through Nov. 11. The second section meets on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Valley Mall Center, from Sept. 21 through Nov. 9. Cost is $83 or $50 for seniors, plus $5 registration fee.
