Day of Caring volunteers sought

August 30, 2010

WASHINGTON COUNTY --Volunteers are needed to participate in United Way of Washington County's 2010 Day of Caring.

This year's event, which sends out hundreds of volunteers across Washington County to work on a variety of service projects at nonprofit organizations, will be Friday, Oct. 22.

Tasks include painting, cleaning, minor repairs and a variety of agency activities, United Way officials said in a prepared release. Basic tasks, such as window washing, home safety checks and yard work will be performed at the homes of elderly and disabled residents.

Last year, 800 volunteers participated, according to the release. This year, organization officials would like to have 1,000 volunteers.

United Way officials believe one reason the program has experienced growth is that it strives to expand project types, according to the release. In addition to its traditional partners, work also will be completed at churches, volunteer fire stations, schools and nursing homes.
