Yard sale planned Oct. 2 at South High
The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will hold a community yard sale at the school Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The first home football game will be Friday at School Stadium, starting at 7 p.m.
Local artist plans art show
Local artist Tamara Hoffman will host a solo show with a portion of the proceeds going to the Humane Society of Washington County.
The show will be in the Mansion House Art Gallery behind Hagerstown City Park.
A reception for the exhibit, "Visions of Light," will be Sunday, Sept. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m.
To honor the memory of the Hoffmans' recently deceased German shepherd, Tosca, Hoffman will be donating 10 percent of the proceeds to the animal shelter.
The show runs from Friday, Sept. 3, to Sunday, Sept. 26.
The Mansion House is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Funkstown Lions Club to hold bingo event
The Funkstown Lions Club will hold a Longaberger basket bingo Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Funkstown fire hall.
There will be 25 games, including five specials, tip jars, raffles and door prizes.
Doors open at 1 p.m. and the first game starts at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $25. It is for adults only.
Food will be available.
Proceeds will benefit the Emma K. Doub Elementary School PTA and Funkstown Lions community projects

Pooch Plunge set for Sept. 8
The seventh annual Pooch Plunge will be Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Claude M. Potterfield Pool, 730 Frederick St. in Hagerstown.
The event will benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.
Admission is $5 for one dog plus one handler. Additional humans or pets will be admitted for $2 each.

Cookbook
Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point is still collecting recipes for the Locust Point Community Cookbook. The group has decided to drop the deadline and collect recipes until they have enough to go to print.
Please submit your recipes ASAP in the pink boxes at Locust Point Market, Potomac Beauty Boutique, Congregation B'Nai Abraham, and Full Life Family Ministries or mail them to Cookbook, c/o Lynda Evans, 306 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
Art classes
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will offer art classes September through December for children and adults.
Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
