Humphries, Franklin earn Player of the Week honors

Two Shepherd University football players were honored as Players of the Week by the West Virginia Conference on Sunday.

Senior fullback Bobby Humphries, of Frederick, Md., was named Offensive Player of the Week after his two fourth-quarter touchdowns helped the Rams beat Shippensburg 35-27 in their season opener on Saturday. Humphries ran for 90 yards -- including scoring runs of 20 and 66 yards -- to spearhead Shepherd's offense, which rolled up 532 total yards.

Freshman defensive lineman Mike Franklin, of Elkridge, Md., was named Special Teams Player of the Week. Franklin blocked Shippensburg kicker Drew Newcomer's extra-point attempt in the third quarter, preserving a 21-20 Shepherd lead.
