Allen C. Hammond, 62, of Fairplay, Md., died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.

Born Dec. 10, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Sylvia R. (Hennesey) Hammond.

His brother, Ronald R. Hammond, preceded him in death in 2005.

Mr. Hammond was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Allen worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, beginning his career with his good friend, Emmitt Abbott Excavating and Well Drilling. His last place of employment was C. William Hetzer Inc. on Sharpsburg Pike in Hagerstown.

He was a member of The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport, Md.

Allen was a farm tractor enthusiast and collected many different models, which he proudly displayed in his home.

He is survived by his two brothers, Howard Leon Hammond and his wife, Ruth, of Hagerstown, and Lauren R. Hammond and his wife, Carolyn, of Sharpsburg; and his eight nephews, Bruce, Eric, Robin, Jody, Chad, Michael, Scott and Jeremy. He also is survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews.


A memorial service will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Pastor Henry Marquiss III will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

There will be no viewing.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
