Carroll County man killed in accident

August 28, 2010

FREDERICK, Md. -- An early morning crash on U.S. 340 near Md. 17 in Frederick claimed the life of a Carroll County, Md., man, according to a Maryland State Police press release.

Wilbur Ivan Farver Jr. of Union Bridge, Md., was pronounced dead at the scene after the 1997 Plymouth Breeze he was driving crossed the median into oncoming traffic, troopers said.

About 6:45 a.m., Farver drove on the left shoulder of eastbound U.S. 340 for an unknown reason, troopers said.

The Plymouth then crossed the grass median and into westbound traffic, colliding head-on with a 2008 Toyota Scion driven by Gregory Dutton of Frederick, troopers said.

Dutton was treated and released from Washington County Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, troopers said.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers said both vehicles were discovered on the right shoulder of westbound U.S. 340 with major damage.
