County commissioners ignore citizen's inquiry

To the editor:

A few weeks ago, I contacted all of the Washington County Commissioners by e-mail and questioned them as to why I observed local government vehicles at a home on Meadowood Drive over a number of days.

People were cutting down trees and making renovations to the house. Since the vehicles displayed local government tags, I assumed the personnel were county employees.

Not one commissioner addressed my question and I learned that the Hagerstown Housing Authority purchased the property.

Obviously, the commissioners felt my question did not deserve an answer and ignored it. In my opinion, ignoring a question by a citizen is discourteous and insulting. I ask you, commissioners, who are you employed by?

I am delighted that elections are coming soon. Perhaps you will learn a lesson.

Bryce, Gruhler should be considered for BOE

To the editor:

I believe on Sept. 14, two Washington County Board of Education candidates deserve every voter's consideration.

These two individuals have spent hours as volunteers in their children's schools. They are aware of the issues that concern the school board, but if elected realize they don't have all of the answers.

As an observer of school board elections in Washington County for the past 24 years, I believe Shawn Bryce and Dottie Gruhler warrant your consideration. I know I am voting for both of them.

Old Home Week was a chance for people to bond

To the editor:

I would like to take the time to thank everyone involved in organizing another great Old Home Week event in Greencastle, Pa. I think it's great that people come together and bond for this event every three years.

I enjoyed being a participant in the parade. I didn't expect to win any prize money. I just like being in parades and displaying the colors of our flag and flying one of several patriotic flags I own.

I decided to display one with a deer on it with a cowboy theme. I received first place.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the next Old Home Week in three years. I have had people tell me I looked great in the parade.
