John Anthony Kendig Jr., 64, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, after an accident on his farm.

Born July 4, 1946, in Martinsburg, John was the son of the late John A. Kendig Sr. and Alice (Patsy) Tabler Kendig.

He was a 1966 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

John served his country in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division from 1967 to 1968 and served in Vietnam in 1969. He was proud to be an American and looking forward to voting Saturday.

His lifetime was spent farming in the Greensburg/Scrabble area.

He was a member of the Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church in Scrabble, W.Va.

John was a member of the Southern States Petroleum Board in Spring Mills.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Sager Kendig; two sons, Brian Kendig and wife, Nikki, of Hedgesville and Adam Kendig and his fiancee, Emily Sponseller, of Scrabble; two sisters, Marjorie Lewis and husband, Harold, of Inwood and Betty Lou Thompson and husband, Billy, of Martinsburg; two brothers, Daniel Kendig and wife, Sheila, of Scrabble and David Kendig and wife, Ruth, of Greencastle, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Dalton Kendig and Jordan Lynn Kendig; and Hawk Kendig.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Kendig.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. G. Edward Grove officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bearers will be Andy Day, J.T. Tabler, Jeremy Tabler, John Paul Tabler, David Grove and Ronnie Grove. Honorary bearer will be John Fout.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Berkeley County Youth Fair Association, P.O. Box 1302, Martinsburg, WV 25402 or to Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church, 4622 Scrabble Road, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
