Scientific solution for weight loss

The Washington County Health Department is offering new fall classes for EBT - Emotional Brain Training - A Scientific Solution for Stress Reduction and Weight Loss.

This program is designed to help individuals struggling with weight issues and focuses on the root of the obesity problem: stress.

Individuals who learn how to retrain their brain to ease stress and have more joy in their life find it easier to make lifestyle changes that last.

The method is science-based and conducted by certified providers.

Classes will be held at Christ's Reformed Church in Hagerstown on Thursday afternoons and in Boonsboro on Thursday mornings starting in September.

CPR for health care providers

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -War Memorial Hospital will offer the American Heart Association's CPR for Health care Providers course from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at War Memorial Hospital. This course is designed for licensed health care providers who need to obtain or renew their CPR certification.

First Aid, CPR and AED training

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -War Memorial Hospital will offer the American Heart Association's Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED training course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the hospital.

This course is designed for laypersons, especially those in a workplace setting.

Participants will learn general principals of first aid, what to do in a medical emergency, how to handle emergency injuries and environmental injuries as well as learn skills in CPR and how to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED). After successful completion of the class, individuals will be issued a participation card from the American Heart Association.

Course costs $40. Class size is limited, so advance registration is required.

Weigh 2 Go program

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -War Memorial Hospital's Center for Rehab & Wellness will offer a 12-week weight-management program, Weigh 2 Go, which focuses on lifestyle behaviors, physical activity and nutrition.

Sara Kuykendall, a registered and licensed dietitian, will conduct the Weigh 2 Go program Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 27.

The program consists of one-hour sessions, which include group discussion, a private weigh-in and review of food and activity records. Registration deadline is Sept. 24.
