CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- In an attempt to raise money, guests are being asked to pop a cork for The Capitol Theatre.

Pop the Cork for the Capitol is a wine-tasting benefit for The Capitol Theatre, a 852-seat live arts venue in downtown Chambersburg.

The tasting will happen from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Wood Center, on The Capitol Theatre's second floor. There will also be cooking-with-wine demonstrations throughout the day. Attendees will find vendors and entertainers in a fenced-in area in the theater's parking lot.

Theater volunteer Ann Wagner is the chair of Pop the Cork. Wagner said last year's tasting fetched 500 attendees.

"There are such a wealth of wineries in Pennsylvania now," said Wagner, who owns Ludwigs Jewelers with her sisters.

Wine samplers can swirl and sip offerings from five Pennsylvania wineries, including Adams County Winery in Orrtanna and Tuscarora Mountain Winery in Chambersburg.

Wagner said food vendors will serve tapas, crepes, fruits and cheeses. Food will also be available from the theater's concession stand.

Those purchasing wine by the bottle can leave it with a wine check, to be picked up on the way outside.
