GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- A Greencastle woman died Thursday morning when a dump truck backed over the motorcycle she was riding near the 200 block of Commerce Avenue in Antrim Township, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Herman Hofacker said.

Vickie Morrison, 48, of Greencastle, died in the accident, Hofacker said.

The accident occurred at 7:32 a.m. when Clifford Sims, 38, of Martinsburg, W.Va., who was driving the dump truck, was westbound on Commerce Avenue and missed the left entrance into a construction site, Hofacker said.

Sims stopped and checked his mirrors, then put the dump truck in reverse without realizing that Morrison was directly behind him, Hofacker said.

Sims, who didn't see Morrison while he was backing up, realized he had run over something, Hofacker said. Sims got out of the truck and saw that Morrison and her motorcycle were trapped under the truck, Hofacker said.

The Franklin County coroner was at the scene and the back of the dump truck was shielded by an orange curtain.

The road in the area of the accident remained open. Authorities remained at the scene for more than four hours.

Sims was driving for Spurgeon Trucking of Martinsburg, Hofacker said.

The investigation was continuing, Hofacker said.
