Girl Scouts plan open house



Do you have a daughter who is interested in joining Girl Scouts?

Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital will hold an open house Wednesday, Sept. 1, at E. Russell Hicks Middle School from 7 to 8 p.m.

Any girl in Washington County in kindergarten through 12th grade who is interested in becoming a Girl Scout can sign up.

If you can't make it to the open house, call 1-888-263-8834 for more information about Girl Scouting in the area.

Fashion show planned at mall



A fall homecoming fashion show will be at Valley Mall Saturday, Sept. 11, from noon to 1 p.m. at the JCPenney wing of the mall.

Clothes will be modeled by Deb Fashions along with hair styling from the Hair Cuttery and make-up by Macy's. The show will highlight the latest in fall hairstyles and fashions for the homecoming season.

Volunteers sought for Make-A-Wish group



The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic is seeking wish-granting volunteers in Western Maryland.

Volunteers work in teams of two to meet with wish families, help children discover their most heartfelt wish and enhance the wish experience. Volunteers must be 21 years old, pass a background check and participate in a training class.

The next training class will be Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Hagerstown area. No site was given for the training class.

Bilingual volunteers (especially Spanish/English) are also needed.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
