Luther Augustus Lane Jr., 69, of 169 Chantilly Court, Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Rockville, Md., passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born Saturday, Aug. 31, 1940, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Luther Augustus Lane Sr. and the late Virginia Ruth Entwisle Lane. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Lee Lane, in 1992.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Signal Corps, and as a driver for the Commandant and served as Quartermaster in the 3rd Division and also spent time attached to the 7th Army Division in Wurzburg, Germany.

He was formerly employed out of Union Hall 1665 in Arlington, Va., at George Hyman Construction in Washington, D.C., and later retired from Callas Construction in Hagerstown, Md., in 2003.

He attended Pleasant Hill United Brethren in Christ Church. He was a founding and charter member of the North Hagerstown Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Gail Lane, whom he married July 3, 1996; one daughter, Jennifer Ann Treadway and husband Bill of Smithsburg, Md.; one son, David Wayne Lane and wife Laura Sue of Smithsburg, Md.; a stepdaughter, Melissa Coley and husband Stewart of Trinity, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Leyse of Summerfield, Fla., and Betty Salisbury of Mount Dora, Fla.; an aunt, Jean Hill of Port Charlotte, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jaclyn Hurd and husband Chris of Junction City, Kan., and Heather Lane and Amber Lane, both of Smithsburg, Md.; two stepgrandchildren, Ashley Hunt and Alexis Grove, both of Trinity, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Madyson Hurd, Ethan Hurd and Brynn Hurd.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Eugene Lane.

Services will be Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Lester Kauffman officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27.

Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Garden, Rockville, Md., on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 1 p.m.
