One injured in three-vehicle accident involving bus

August 26, 2010

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. --A school bus driver avoided injury Thursday in a three-vehicle accident on W.Va. 9 in Hedgesville, according to Berkeley County Schools spokeswoman Jaimee Borger.

The accident, which involved a red 1991 Ford pickup, a purple 2001 Hyundai and Berkeley County Schools' bus no. 58 happened about 3:17 p.m. in front of Murphy's convenience store near Hedgesville, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and Borger.

A back-seat passenger in the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries and the driver was cited after the vehicle rear-ended the pickup truck, which then struck the bus' rear bumper, causing minor damage, police said.

Borger said she believed that the bus was en route to Tomahawk Intermediate School to pick up students, and no students were on board at the time.
