Around Funkstown

August 24, 2010|By SUSIE HOFFMAN

On to September

Say goodbye to August and welcome to September and all the good things that the month has to offer. I can think of quite a few football games, soccer games, school activities and cooler evenings.

School schedules should be settling into a routine by now and most of the necessary forms should have been returned to school.

Service clubs are in full swing and I want to remind you of bingo nights and other happenings.

On Wednesday night, the Funkstown American Legion will offer bingo at 7.

Also on Wednesday, Funkstown Lions Club meets at the Plaza Hotel at 6:30 p.m.

The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will offer bingo Thursday at 7 p.m.

Duck races set for Saturday

Don't forget the duck races Saturday at the Funkstown Fire Co. So much fun and for such a good cause. Grab a bite to eat at the fire company's barbecue while you are watching the plastic ducks float along Antietam Creek.

Girl Scouts plan event

Do you have a girl in your home between the ages of kindergarten and 12th grade? The Girl Scouts Council of the Nation's Capital will hold an open house Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 7 to 8 p.m. at E. Russell Hicks Middle School.

If you cannot make the meeting but want some more information, call Theresa Rossiter at 301-733-1273.
