PARKVILLE, Md. - Frances Elizabeth Varnum (nee Lushbaugh), 98, of Parkville, Md., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010.

She attended St. Mary Catholic School and Hagerstown High School, graduating with the class of 1931, and was a 1936 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

She was the beloved wife of the late Albert H. Varnum Jr.; devoted mother of Carole A. Parhizgari and husband, Ali, Margaret L. Buchheister and husband, Raymond, Albert H. Varnum III, Susan V. Ehman and her friend, Loyd, Linda J. Lumsden, and Helen McNabb and husband, Colin; loving grandmother of 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and dear sister of Margaret M. Richards and husband, Russell, and Charles Ronald Lushbaugh and wife, Dixie. She also is survived by her niece, Virginia Walton, and husband, Theodore, and her nephew, John Gough Jr. and wife, Marie; and her caregiver, Joyce Adams.

She was preceded in death by Helen Kendall, Laura Jean Lushbaugh, Sara Jane Shifler, Irma Myers, Julia Walters and brother, George Lushbaugh Jr.


A funeral liturgy was held Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at St. Ursula Catholic Church, Parkville, with interment in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
