Editor's note: Millions of dollars worth of road projects are under way in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and southcentral Pennsylvania. Drivers will find themselves navigating through detours and delays. The Herald-Mail will run this feature regularly on Mondays this summer and into the fall to get motorists ready for the start of the work week. Here is what to anticipate on the roads this week:

West Virginia

o Work continues in Berkeley County on widening U.S. 11 to three lanes south of W.Va. 45 to Pikeside. Traffic might be reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., under the control of flaggers for paving and grading work.

o Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania will begin Monday to relocate nearly 1,000 feet of natural gas main line along East Seminary Street and Church Street in Mercersburg, Pa.

In coordination with the upgrade of the existing stormwater management system, Columbia will upgrade the natural gas main line, replace customer service lines, and move gas meters outside homes and businesses.

Along with gas main relocation and replacement, Columbia will be replacing curbs and sidewalks, including the installation of ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps along the route.

Work will take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours, and is expected to continue through the end of September.

o In the Borough of Waynesboro, crews will continue utility upgrades on Main Street between Potomac Street and Center Square, according to Kevin Grubbs, the borough's head of engineering services.

Crews also will be putting in crosswalk bumpouts at the Mulberry Avenue walkway this week.

The repaving of East Second Street from Myrtle Avenue to Waynesboro Area Middle School wrapped up last week and the street reopened to traffic on Friday.

o The Franklin County office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said crews this week will be doing bridge work on Amberson Road in Fannett Township, and pipe placement on Little Cove Road in Warren Township and on Rocky Mt. Road in Quincy and Guilford townships.

Shoulder widening and base repair will be done this week on Welsh Run Road in Montgomery Township, while shoulder cutting will be done on Old Scotland Road in Southampton and Greene townships, and on Guitner Road in Guilford and Antrim townships.

o Bridges remain closed on Mont Alto Road, Marsh Road, Pa. 316 south (Wayne Highway) and Pa. 997 (Anthony Highway).

Motorists are asked to drive carefully in work zones.
