Blue Ridge Elementary School parking, drop-off procedures changed

Parents asked to follow new guidelines during construction

August 22, 2010

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. -- The principal of Blue Ridge Elementary School is asking those dropping off or picking up children at the school to follow new guidelines during construction at the school.

Principal Susan Zigler has announced the following:

oFor students using the rear entrance, drivers should go to the W.Va. 9 entrance near the police substation. They should then proceed to the parent loop in the back of the building. The students will exit the cars and come in the back lobby doors. Parents will continue around the loop and exit the same way they came in. This is not a parking area. The loop needs to have continuous movement in order for parents of car riders to pick up their children. Parents are asked to be patient as everyone learns the new procedures. This will be the routine when the new primary building opens next year. Both schools will have a common parent loop and bus loop.

o The front entrance will be used for students who arrive after 9:05 a.m. Parents and visitors cannot park in the bus loop during bus arrival or dismissal times.

o The school will use car-rider signs for students who are picked up at the rear of the building. The signs are to be displayed so the staff member on duty can see who the driver is picking up from the school. Please contact your child's teacher to receive one of the signs if you will be picking up your child from the rear entrance in the afternoon.

o Visitor parking has been moved to the lower parking lot. Also, visitors may park in the front of the building, as long as they are not parked there when buses arrive and leave.

Blue Ridge Elementary is on Charles Town Road and is part of Jefferson County Schools. Classes begin Monday in the Eastern Panhandle.

If parents have any questions, they may contact the school at 304-725 -2995.
