Franklin Delano R. Burcker, 70, of Smithsburg, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at NMS Healthcare Center in Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 31, 1939, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Raymond Francis and May Lillian Virginia (Lowery) Burcker.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Montgomery County government.

He was a longtime member of the Thomas Pangborn F.O.P. Lodge 88. Frank enjoyed camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid collector of coins, trains and clocks. His favorite hobby was spending time with his family and following his grandsons in all their sporting events. He will be remembered by his family as a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by two daughters, Jeannette "Jeannie" M. Thompson and husband Bobby of Hagerstown, and Dana M. Burcker of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Samantha Burcker, Robbie Thompson, Dustin Thompson, Karissa Burcker and Kharis Burcker; and a great-granddaughter, Baya Burcker; a brother, Jacob Burcker of Hagerstown; a special sister-in-law, Mae Burcker of Clear Spring; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Burcker of Williamsport; and numerous nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee (Fritz) Burcker; a son, Gary D. Burcker; three brothers, George A. Burcker, John Burcker and Marvin Burcker; and two sisters, Catherine Kennedy and Mary Spidle.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor John Koontz Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
