Caregiving Conference and Wisdom Expo Planned

Washington County CARES and Hagerstown Community College announce an upcoming regional conference scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1 entitled Caregiving: Expert Advice & Practical Care Tips for the Journey at The Merle S Elliott Continuing Education and Conference Center at HCC.

The conference is intended to provide continuing education for health care professionals and supportive education for family and community caregivers. Continuing education credits will be available for nursing home administrators, nurses, social workers, psychologists, counselors and therapists, certificates of attendance for activities professionals, and CNAs / GNAs. Topics to be presented will include risk management, using effective communication, creating a positive environment for the patient and staff member and more.

The family and community caregiver portion of the conference will offer topics of particular interest to those who are responsible for the care of another individual. Topics will include financial, legal and care issues, introducing moments of fun and strategies for managing the stress of being a caregiver.

Also that day, The Herald-Mail Company and CARES will partner to host a Wisdom Expo at the HCC ARCC. The expo is free to the public and will run from 9 am until 3 pm. This event will feature local vendors who provide products and services targeted to the caregiver and Wisdom audience. Health screenings, product demonstrations, and local experts will be featured at the event.
