August 19, 2010|By JULIE E. GREENE

Brethren Mutual Insurance Co. donated $7,000 to the Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor School at Fairview.

Board of Education members unanimously approved accepting the donation Tuesday night.

The money will be used to buy a utility vehicle and to help provide two outdoor pavilions at the school, Jill Burkhart, director for elementary education, said this week.

The utility vehicle would replace an older vehicle that staff members use to carry materials around the school site, Burkhart said.

The pavilions would become instructional facilities, she said. The pavilions will be built with the help of other contributions and volunteers, she said.

The school, which has day and overnight programs, promotes environmental awareness, according to its website. The school is northwest of Clear Spring.

Brethren Mutual has its headquarters at the corner of North Edgewood Drive and Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown.
