Theater announces 2010-11 season

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Tickets are now on sale for shows presented by The Capitol Theatre during the 2010-11 season.

o Friday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. -- The Fabulous Hubcaps will sing oldies and early classic rock.

o Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. -- New York City's "singing policeman" tenor, Daniel Rodriguez.

o Sunday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. -- The Towne Singers in a special 40th anniversary show, plus local director Lynn Lerew and The Slide Show.

o Saturday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. -- Dublin's Traditional Irish Cabaret featuring dancers, tenor Paul Hennessy, soprano Emer Hartnett and Irish comic Noel V. Ginnity.

o Saturday, April 9, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. -- The National Christian Choir's 120-voice chorus.

Gallery seeks mosaics for November show

Contemporary Gallery of Art is seeking regional artists to submit entries in a juried mosaic show opening in November.

The show winner will receive $100 in cash or a solo exhibit at Contemporary Gallery of Art.

The opening reception for the mosaic show will be on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Items must be received by Monday, Nov. 8, at the Contemporary Gallery of Art, 4 W. Franklin St. in downtown Hagerstown. The submisson fee is $25 per artist. Artists may submit one or two pieces.

Bus trip to Pa. museum to see impressionists

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts has announced a bus trip to the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pa., on Thursday, Oct. 28.

The Barnes Foundation has a collection of French impressionist, post-impressionist and early modern paintings. The collection includes works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, Picasso, Henri Rouseau and others.

This collection will relocate to a new museum in downtown Philadelphia. These are the final months to view these works at their original location and in the unique arrangement used by the foundation's founder, A.C. Barnes.

The trip will depart from the museum in Hagerstown's City Park at 7 a.m. Oct. 28 and return about 7 p.m. the same day.

The registration fee covers travel and Barnes Foundation admission; the cost is $65 per person for Washington County Museum of Fine Arts Members and $70 for nonmembers.

Artists invited to submit tiny artwork

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Entries will be accepted through Sept. 24 for the Council for the Arts' Miniature Art 2010 exhibition to be held Nov. 5 through Jan. 8.Artists may submit up to four original works in any fine-art media, each no larger than 4 inches by 6 inches. All works must be framed.
