Youth summer jam planned for Aug. 29



A youth summer jam will be Sunday, Aug. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown.

Contests will include a Best Dougie Contest and a JERK Crew dance competition.

There will also be a free limousine ride that will cruise around town. And not just any limo. It will be a 2010 Hummer "stretch limo."

In addition to DJ Tracy G, there will be other live performers as well as a skateboard showdown and BMX bike tricks.

The event is sponsored by the Mary Washington Foundation. The event will be held rain or shine.

Breakfast planned at church Saturday



Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave., will host a breakfast Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.

The menu will include pancakes, sausage, eggs, fried potatoes, a biscuit and choice of orange juice or coffee.

The meal costs $6.

Bus trip a success



And speaking of youth, the children and their families who joined the For Our Kids Sake bus trip Saturday to Kings Dominion had a great day.

I am told it was a beautiful day and everyone had a great time.

The trip coordinators thank all who made the trip a success. Approximately 160 people participated.

Men's day



Greater Campher Temple, 125 Bethel St., will celebrate its annual Men's Day Saturday, Aug. 28, and Sunday, Aug. 29.

On Aug. 28, the service will be at 5 p.m. with several platform speakers and soloists.

On Aug. 29, the Rev. Tim Green from Church of Life in Harrisburg, Pa., will talk at the 11 a.m. service.

Dance class season to start



The fall session for the Ballet and All That Jazz dance class will begin Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m.

Classes will be held at the Sumans Avenue community building.

All school-age students are welcome to attend.

The dance class is part of the C-SAFE program.

Crab feast set for Sept. 11



Zion Baptist Church will hold a crab feast Saturday, Sept. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the UAW Hall, 18131 Maugans Ave. in Maugansville.

The menu includes fried chicken, macaroni salad, crab soup and corn on the cob.

Tickets cost $35. Tickets must be reserved by Aug. 28. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.ZBC61.org/campaign There is a $2.50 processing fee for all tickets purchased online.

All proceeds benefit Zion Baptist Church's capital campaign. The Rev. Rickey A. Smith Sr. is pastor.

The church is at 61 W. Bethel St. in Hagerstown.

August had a few birthdays for the Keyes Family and the family sends out birthday wishes, although belated, to Ruby (Ming) Wilson on Aug. 11; William Keyes II and Evan Medley on Aug. 13; Angie Rollins on Aug. 17; and Victoria Pope on Aug. 21.

Everyone hopes you enjoyed your day and that it was more than you could have imagined and then some. To Victoria, who will celebrate Saturday, may all your dreams come true - enjoy your special day.
