MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A 56-year-old Martinsburg woman was cited for possession of a controlled substance less than 15 grams after a police officer saw her lighting a marijuana pipe outside the law office where her husband works, according to city court records.

Cynthia S. Sayre, who is due to appear Aug. 23 in Martinsburg Municipal Court on the charge, is the wife of Martinsburg City Attorney Floyd M. "Kin" Sayre III.

"She was cited and she's entering a plea of guilty and paying the fine just like anyone else," Sayre said Wednesday.

Patrol officer Teresa Gibbons cited Cynthia Sayre at about 7 a.m. on Aug. 11 in the 100 block of South Queen Street outside of her husband's office at Bowles Rice McDavid Graff & Love, according to court records.

Upon receiving consent to a search, Cynthia Sayre was found with a small amount of marijuana in a heart-shaped container and a marijuana bowl, according to court records.

Floyd Sayre said he was in his office when the incident occurred.
