SALISBURY, Md. -- The Hagerstown Suns rallied for a pair of five-run leads and held on for an 8-6 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday night.
It was the third straight win for Hagerstown (57-64, 21-30 second half).
The Suns rallied for five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. A three-run triple by Sandy Leon was sandwiched by RBI singles by Brett Newsome and Justino Cuevas.
After the Shorebirds cut their deficit to 5-3 in the fifth, the Suns upped their lead to 7-3 in the sixth on a two-out, two-run single by Rick Hague.
Hagerstown made it 8-3 in the seventh on back-to-back, one-out doubles by Newsome and Stephen King.
The Shorebirds rallied for three runs in the seventh to cut the lead to 8-6. Garabez Rosa hit a two-run homer off Suns starter Evan Bronson, and Gary Helmick hit a solo shot off reliever Shane McCatty.
