Schultz has good start

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Beaver Creek professional Dirk Schultz opened the Middle Atlantic PGA Pro Championship with a 3-under-par 69 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club on Monday.

Schultz, fired five birdies and had two bogeys as he ended the first round tied for third place.

The top 12 finishers, out of a field of 153 golfers, will gain a spot in the PGA Pro National Championship next June in Hershey, Pa.

Fountain Head pro Jim Schouller shot a first-round 75 and Black Rock's Tim Reeves shot a 78.
