Chicken barbecue

The Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. will hold a chicken barbeque Saturday at the ambulance station on Old National Pike from 9 a.m. until sold out. Chicken will be sold as dinners with baked beans, applesauce and a roll, or as halves only.

Library news

Coming up, a couple of last summer hoorahs at the Boonsboro Library:

On Saturday, the movie, "Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove" will be shown. The PG-rated film will begin at 11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

On Tuesday, Aug. 24, Lou Clark will present an hour-long program featuring stories and pictures of paranormal events at Antietam National Battlefield, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Gun bonanza

The Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Department will host a gun bonanza Saturday, Sept. 18. The doors will open at 4 p.m. with dinner served at 6. Dancing to a DJ will begin after the drawing.

The event will be at Cochran Auction Complex, 7704 Mapleville Road in Boonsboro. Tickets cost $40 for two adults and includes dinner and beverages.

Exercise classes

The Washington County Recreation Department will offer exercise classes in Boonsboro. Classes will be at the fire hall on St. Paul Street beginning Sept. 14 and ending Dec. 9.

Certified instructor Beth Shifler will teach the low-impact aerobics class, which includes muscle toning and stretching.

Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Boonsboro Fire Hall, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring a towel or mat for floor exercises.

The fee for Washington County residents is $45 and $55 for out-of-county residents. The fee for senior citizens (55 and older) is $36 for county residents and $44 for out-of-county residents.

Class of 1990

The Boonsboro High Class of 1990 reunion is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Dimensions Restaurant, 132 Old National Pike between Boonsboro and Funkstown.

Tickets cost $40 per person or $80 per couple.

The evening will include a D.J., cocktails, appetizers and dinner.

There will also be a professional photographer at the event to take a group photo and individual photos. Classmates should send payment and any questions to Kathy Tytus at"> Invitations will be mailed out this month.

County well represented

In closing, a nepotistic note our daughter, Laurin Smith, has completed an arduous swab summer at the United States Coast Guard Academy. She is now a cadet in the fourth class.

Another cadet, Cadet 3rd Class Jeb Slick, hails from Smithsburg. Our county is well represented.
