Mail Call

August 16, 2010

"This is Aug. 11, Wednesday, and I've been reading Mail Call for - since you put it in there, but I noticed the last couple weeks it's all been all right-wingers, so - right-wing stuff, so you must have a right-winger editor editing for Mail Call. It's all about President Obama being terrible and everything, and some of the stuff in there is really silly. And it's quotes to begin with, it's not facts."

- Hagerstown

"To the woman that believes the cut in the mountain is responsible for the drought we are having this year: How do you explain the 72 inches of snow Hagerstown got last winter?"

- Hagerstown

"I'm tired of cartoonists at The Herald-Mail making fun of the Tea Party. I'm a Tea Party member, and what we stand for is holding a power-grabbing government accountable for trashing the Constitution and spending taxpayers' money like a drunken sailor. The one about the plagues, blood and earthquakes - if you ignore what the Bible says about same-sex marriage, it is only begging for God's judgment."

"What gets me about these pro-lifers is, why don't they go around the neighborhoods and look at the poor children that don't have enough to eat, that are being sexually and physically abused, and try to make their lives a little better, instead of worrying about once a child's born, they could care less and walk away? They don't care what kind of life they're born into. All that matters is that they're born. Why don't they just try to make the children's life a little better that are here?"

"I'm looking at the Tuesday paper, Aug. 10. I cannot believe the banks or all these foreclosures. There's 34 foreclosures in the paper. That's over half of our paper is foreclosures. Shame on all the banks or whoever, the finance companies that are foreclosing all these people. I mean, I want to read the news, but I don't want to read all these foreclosures. I just think it's terrible, terrible, terrible. Shame on all of you."

- Fairplay

"So far in this county, we can vote for the candidate of our choice, but please do not deface the other candidates' signs."

- Williamsport

"As a taxpayer, I think this escape thing is just a whitewash, and one thing I really disagree with is the staffing levels at the prison complex, at 98 percent? Give me a break. Of course they're at 98 percent, but that's because they've closed a lot of security posts during the security audits, saying we don't need these officers. So that's why the staffing level is up so high. ... They've closed all kinds of areas where they do need an officer."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know where you can get the yard campaign signs for the upcoming election. If someone would put a number or location in the paper, I'd appreciate it."

- Clear Spring

"No careers in politics, right? What about your beloved Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin, and oh yes, Chris Shank. Just how many decades has Mr. Shank been pursuing a career in politics? Now there's a question. And give me a break."

- Hagerstown

"As a state employee, I'm tired of seeing our pay - or being furloughed, thanks to Gov. (Martin) O'Malley, Del. (John P.) Donoghue, and especially Sen. (Donald F.) Munson. On Sept. 14, the people better wake up. Let's send these guys home. It's pink-slip time for all three."

- Hagerstown

"This is to the person that lives in Smithsburg, they have a problem with a bat in their basement. I would reconsider calling the exterminator if I were you."

- Hagerstown

"Concerning some properties in the Williamsport area, I myself live in an apartment complex, and it just seems that the rent goes up every year and no updates are made to any of the apartments. I won't name them, but they were built in 1972 and they still have 1972 kitchens, baths, floors in them, and windows that are very hard to open. I think it's about time for these landlords to put some money back into them. I think they are well on the way downhill. Before long it will be another housing project."

- Williamsport

"May you rest in peace, Tammy. You'll be missed by all that knew and loved you."

- Hagerstown

"This morning I got up and got ready to go to work, and somebody has busted the mirror off of my car, the passenger side, third time. But at least this time they picked it up and laid it on my hood for me. They did not leave me any information as to who did it. What's wrong with people? Can't they have a little respect for other people? And that's all I need to say."

- Hagerstown

"Here we go, the correctional officers and their union blaming the escape on staffing shortages. That's the problem with this country. Everyone wants to place the blame on anyone but themselves. I'm personally tired of hearing correctional officers complaining about everything. You chose the occupations, so stop crying."

- Clear Spring

"Maybe we should start calling for snow instead of rain, because the rain isn't here yet and they keep saying rain. But maybe the snow will come here first."
