Cruise-in set for Saturday



Hub City Cruisers will hold a cruise-in Saturday at the former County Market parking lot off Burhans Boulevard from 5 to 9 p.m.

The entry fee is $2 per vehicle. Prizes will be awarded at 8:30 p.m. Ice cream and food vendors will be available.

Proceeds benefit Hospice of Washington County.

The group will hold cruise-ins the first and third Saturdays of the month until Oct. 16.

Bible study planned



Shiloh United Methodist Church invites the community to join in a nine-week Bible study on the Christian scripture. Each week the church will explore the New Testament and examine what Jesus is calling us to experience. The 90-minute class will meet Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

The church is at 19731 Shiloh Church Road off Old Forge Road.

Losses for the week for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 were 24 3/4 pounds.

The best TOPS losers were Valerie Eccard, Dottie Alexander and Terri Hendricks. The best KOPS losers were Louise Horst, Audrey Smith and Kathy Renner. Renner recently achieved her goal of moving from TOPS to KOPS (Keep off Pounds Sensibly).

Charlie Houser won the Get-R-Done prize for the second consecutive week. Millie Toms got the Ha! Ha! prize. The no-no snack for the week is doughnuts.

The chapter's food drive will end today. The play money auction has been moved to Aug. 30.

Awards day highlights: 76 members weighed in, 37 with perfect attendance. Honored KOPS for July were Nancy Itnyre and Bonnie Henry. Best losers were Rita McPherson, Renner, Joan Jones, Bea Myers and Toms. Rosemary Gill received the friendship award. Shining stars were Betty Jones and Debbie Hardin.

Mildred Hluchy presented the program titled "Do Summer Diets Have a Chance at Success?" She said sunlight and heat can curb appetites, while seasonal, healthy foods are readily available.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

Judy G. and Yvonne recorded a loss after a vacation for TOPS Chapter 0446. Recording a loss after a holiday were Yvonne, Joyce C., Frankie, Marie, Joanne Pi, Elise, Jeanne R., Betty Jo, Joann P., Cathryn, Linda and Elise.

Marie recorded a loss after a birthday and Yvonne had a 10-pound loss for the month.

Those who had perfect attendance for the month were Judy H., Joyce C. and Jeanne R. Joyce C. recorded six consecutive losses. The shining star who was the most supportive, inspirational and gave encouragement to the group was Joyce C., who also had a nongain month. Marie H. and Teresa were recognized for presenting programs in July.

Last Man's Club picnic



The Vietnam Last Man's Club at American Legion Post 42 will hold its annual picnic fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 11, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the post home on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

Tickets cost $15 and are available from any member or at the post home. The deadline to purchase tickets is Sept. 4. The public is invited.
