The Learning Center

Christy Lewis recently was named director of The Learning Center, a full-service child care center and division of Washington County Health System.

Lewis has been employed by The Learning Center for the last 20 years. She most recently served as office manager.

Before joining The Learning Center, Lewis was director of after-school programs at Paramount and Eastern elementary schools.

Lewis holds an associate degree in early childhood education from Hagerstown Community College and has held the national administrator credential since 2004. She also has been awarded the Maryland State Department of Education level 5 child care credential.

Loyalton of Hagerstown

Veronica Kershner recently was hired as assistant executive director at Loyalton of Hagerstown, a senior living community.

Kershner has more than 15 years of accounting experience. She previously worked as administrative assistant at Broadmore Assisted Living.

Kershner received her bachelor of science degree in computer studies from the University of Maryland University College with a minor in business administration.



Tim Hose, a correctional officer II, was named Employee of the Month for August at Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown.

Hose received the award for his efforts resulting in significant discoveries of contraband on two separate occasions.

In June, Hose pursued an inmate who refused to be searched and saw the inmate discard a homemade weapon. In July, he pursued another inmate, physically taking him down and recovering a weapon.

Touchstone Crystal

Candice Wagaman of Hagerstown recently attended Touchstone Crystal's national conference in Cranston, R.I.

Wagaman was recognized in several achievement categories for 2010, including highest performer in organizational sales, highest performer in leadership development and the Silver Consistency Award in personal sales.

Wagaman was recognized as a founding leader of Touchstone Crystal, a past member of the advisory council and a member of the 2010-11 advisory council. She also was recognized as a 2010 national incentive trip winner.

Wagaman also served as the conference's closing keynote speaker.

Touchstone Crystal is a direct-sales fashion jewelry division of Swarovski launched in January 2009.

U.S. Cellular

Samantha Turner, a retail wireless consultant at U.S. Cellular in Hagerstown, recently graduated from U.S. Cellular's 2010 Leadership Institute of the Mid-Atlantic.

Turner was one of seven associates who were chosen to attend the six-month program that taught leadership skills in areas such as high-impact communication, making effective decisions and developing others.

Robinwood Orthopaedic Specialty Center

Eric C. Sampsell, P.T., recently was hired as director of physical therapy at Robinwood Orthopaedic Specialty Center.

Sampsell, a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer, previously was employed by City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., where he was outpatient rehabilitation coordinator as well as director of the S.M.A.R.T. Clinic.

Sampsell graduated from the University of Charleston (W.Va.) in 1997 with a B.S. in sports medicine. He passed his national certification exam to become a certified athletic trainer, and received his master's degree in physical therapy in 2000 from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.

Con-way Freight

George Stone Jr., a driver sales representative with Con-way Freight, recently reached 1 million miles of safe driving without an accident.

Stone, a Hagerstown resident, has been employed by Con-way Freight since April 2000 and has been a professional truck driver for 25 years.

Stone's route takes him from Hagerstown to Roanoke, Va.
