HIGGINSVILLE, Mo. - Leon F. "Poppy" Schrader, 73, of Higginsville, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born July 26, 1937, in Dornsife, Pa., the son of Russell Schrader and Mabel Latshaw Schrader.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1958, ranking Spec. 3.

He lived in Hagerstown and Smithsburg, Md., before moving to Higginsville. Leon worked as a forklift operator at Alcoa Aluminum in Frederick, Md., retiring in 1999.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Smithsburg; life member of Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg; life member of the AMVETS Post, Hagerstown; member of American Legion, Riviera, Texas; Salem Masonic Lodge 196, Smithsburg; Lexington Moose Lodge; and Higginsville Order of Eastern Star.


Surviving are daughter, Diane (Richard) Lynn of Higginsville; son, Wayne (Rhonda) Schrader of Smithsburg; three grandchildren, Sharon (Joe) Emmerick of Japan, Morgan Schrader of Smithsburg and Alison Lynn of Higginsville; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Missouri Veterans Chapel.
