Religion: Speakers and topics

St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ann Boyd will preach at the 8 a.m. communion service. There will be two simultaneous services at 10:15 a.m., morning prayer in the church and a communion service led by the youth at St. James School Chapel. The adult forum is at 9 a.m. The parish picnic will be at 11:30 a.m. at the school. Youth Sunday school resumes in the fall.

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pastor Quentin Fleming will preside at the 8:15 a.m. service and 10:30 a.m. communion service. The topic will be Praise the Lord. A farewell luncheon for Fleming will folllow the later service. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, the Rev. Eric Norgard is presider Sunday at the 9 a.m. praise worship in fellowship hall and the 10:55 a.m. evangelical worship in the sanctuary. The blessing of the backpacks will be celebrated at both services.


St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, Pastor Glenn Anthony Capacchione's sermon topic will be Has God's Blessing Spilled All Over Your Lap? at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday.

First Christian Church, the Rev. Timothy Murtaugh will share the message Bread Stories at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday. Sunday school for all ages at 10:15 a.m.

First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, Pastor Thom Smith will speak on The Confession at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.

Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, the Rev. Carol Hallman will preach Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be A Somebody Done Me Wrong Song. Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, the youth who attended the National Youth Conference in Colorado will lead the 10 a.m. service Sunday. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9 a.m.

Valley Assembly of God, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, Sunday, the sermon topic will be The Healing Tree at the 10 a.m. service. Bible study for all ages at 9 a.m. Evening worship at 6 p.m. with Missionary Evangelist Dan Hesse. Wednesday activities at 7 p.m.

Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Al Clipp will present the meditation The Great Logo Contest at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. Hispanic services at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., there will be three-fold communion at 10 a.m. Sunday. There will be no Christian education classes. Wednesday gathering with Bible study, prayer and teen club at 7 p.m.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 14106 National Pike, Clear Spring, Pastor Allen Reed will speak on The Witness of Faith at the 8:15 a.m. communion service, which includes a children's sermon. Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. Mid-week worship is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 14615 Fairview Church Road, Clear Spring, Pastor Allen Reed will speak Sunday on The Witness of Faith at the 10:30 a.m. service, which includes a children's sermon. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Gerry Hanberry will speak at the 10 a.m. service on Walking Humbly. Special music will be provided by David Porterfield. Sunday school will resume in the fall.

Welty Church of the Brethren, Greensburg, Doug Oliver will speak on You Can't Have One Without the Other. Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.

St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Beaver Creek Church Road, has a service at 8:45 a.m. Sunday with Pastor Darrell Layman speaking.

St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Keedysville, offers a communion service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday with Pastor Darrell Layman.

Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Halfway, the Rev. Marilyn Washburn will lead the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday. The topic will be Divided Families. Adult Bible study is at 10:45 a.m. There will be a blessing of the backpacks during the children's sharing.

Tri-State Fellowship, Pastor Randy Buchman will lead the 9:30 a.m. classic service and 11 a.m. bridge service Sunday on Has Not God Made Foolish the Wisdom of the World? in the Great Bible Questions series. Children's and student programs are offered. High school youth meet at 6 p.m.

Trinity Reformed UCC, 33 Potomac St., Boonsboro, Louie Thomas will speak Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on One More Chance.

New Beginning Community Church, corner of Dual Highway and Beaver Creek Road, Pastor Mark Snyder will start the message series, Family on the Run - The Communication Barrier at 11 a.m. Sunday. Music by Chrissey Butler. Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. Snyder will continue a study in the book of Titus at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown, Pastor Kenneth J. Fizer Jr. will speak on The Weeping Prophet at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service. Sunday school at 10:40 a.m.

St. Peter's (Beard's) Lutheran Church, Old Forge Road, the Rev. David C. Baker will speak at the 9:15 a.m. service Sunday on Rejoice in His Promises.
