Bryce has vision for the future for education

To the editor:

It's that time again. It's time to decide how to whittle down the 11 candidates for the Washington County Board of Education to six who will make it through the primary and then to the three who will serve on our BOE for the next four years.

My decision will be an easy one - Shawn Bryce gets my vote. Her three children are spread out in age enough to cover all three stages of education - elementary, middle and high school. She has served on all three of the PTAs for each institution that her children have attended, and president for a term on at least one.

Having worked closely with Shawn on the Smithsburg High School PTSA, I would strongly recommend we send her to represent us at the next level on our Board of Education. She is hardworking, has a vision for the future for our children and will work tirelessly to see that she serves the people well.

Old Home Week was a memorable event

To the editor:

On behalf of the officers and board of directors, I offer my sincere thanks to the dozens of committee chairpersons; hundreds of volunteers; the financial contributors; municipal government and public safety personnel; Scouting organizations; and the citizens of Greencastle-Antrim, many states and foreign countries who visited us during the 37th triennial Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week.

It was our honor to plan the many wonderful traditions associated with this week, along with additional new features that were enjoyed by thousands of men, women and children. We were blessed with great weather as well.

Many memories were reminisced of our past and more memories were made last week for future Old Home Weeks.

My sincerest congratulations and support are offered to the 38th triennial President Carol Christophel, Secretary Ed Wine, and Treasurer Andy Everetts as the planning is already under way for the next Old Home Week in Greencastle-Antrim.

Mark your vacation calendars for the 38th triennial Greencastle-Antrim Old Home Week to be held Aug. 3-10, 2013.
