Baltimore-bound flight forced to land in Ohio

August 12, 2010

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- An AirTran Airways spokesman says a flight from Indianapolis bound for Baltimore landed in Ohio instead after pilots saw a warning light indicating a mechanical problem.

AirTran spokesman Christopher White said Thursday that Flight 807 landed safely in Dayton with 48 passengers and five crew members on board. He said the passengers would be put on other AirTran flights to Baltimore.

White says the plane left Indianapolis about 8:30 a.m. Thursday and made the landing in Dayton at 9:10 a.m. He says the Boeing 717 was manufactured in December 2001 and last inspected Wednesday night in Indianapolis.

White says the Atlanta-based airline did not yet know the specific problem but that maintenance personnel were en route to Dayton.
