Peach festival

The 31st annual Leitersburg Peach Festival will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Leitersburg Ruritan Community Park (behind the Leitersburg Fire Hall).

The menu includes fresh peaches, in a variety of dishes; sausage, ham and barbecue beef sandwiches; fresh-cut french fries; and funnel cakes.

The event will include craft vendors, petting zoo, antique tractors, quilt raffle, children's barrel train, peach pie contest and pony rides.


Admission is free. Free parking and a shuttle for the handicapped will be available.

The event is sponsored by the Leitersburg Ruritan Club, with proceeds to be used for community projects.

Pen Mar Park

The Holders will perform Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pen Mar Park as the summer music series continues.

First aid class

The Washington County Red Cross, at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown, will hold a CRP/AED Child and Infant and First Aid Certification Course Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The course includes manual, skill cards and certification cards. The purpose of the course is to train individuals to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations, and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children and infants.

The training is required by all day-care providers. Registration is required. Call 301-739-0717 to reserve a seat.

Sea Chanters to perform

The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters as part of its annual Red, White and Blue Summer Concert Series on Thursday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. in HCC's Alumni Amphitheater.

The group is the official chorus of the U.S. Navy. Under the direction of Senior Chief Musician Georgina L. Todd, the group performs a variety of music, including choral arrangements and Broadway show tunes and travels throughout the nation, often appearing at state and national events. The Sea Chanters are frequent performers at White House events, and have played alongside musicians such as Marian Anderson, Perry Como and Kenny Rogers.
