Phillip "Phil" R. Jones, 83, of Boonsboro, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born May 29, 1927, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., he was the son of the late David T. and Helen Mae Jones.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church and Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.

Phil was in charge of plant operations at the Corning Glass Works in Martinsburg, W.Va., and retired in 1986 as the plant manager of the Waynesboro, Va., plant.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carol S. (Hooper) Jones; two sons, Phillip R. Jones Jr. of Charleston, W.Va., and Steven G. Jones of Stephens City, Va.; one stepson, Thomas G. Clagett of Frederick, Md.; one stepdaughter, Marcie L. Carnahan of Middletown, Md.; and two brothers, James and Robert Jones, both of Martinsburg. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.


Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia (Grove) Jones; his son, Ernest Jones; one sister, Susan Grubbs; and two brothers, David Jones Jr. and John Jones.

A graveside ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Benevola United Methodist Church Cemetery, 19925 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro, Md. The Rev. John H. Dean will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 of Boonsboro. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Benevola United Methodist Church.
