Smithsburg EMS responded to 101 calls in July

SMITHSBURG --Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Inc. responded to 101 calls in July, according to Deputy Chief James Ulrich.

The department responded to 64 medical calls and 26 trauma calls, which included 14 vehicle, motorcycle and pedestrian accidents, Ulrich said. A burn patient was flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by Trooper 3, the Frederick, Md.-based Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter, and the department assisted on five fire calls, including four structure fires, Ulrich said.

The July calls included 16 responses in Smithsburg town limits, 18 responses to the Leitersburg area, seven to the Mount Aetna area, and 10 calls to Cascade, Pen Mar and Fort Ritchie. Mutual-aid calls included 10 to Frederick County, six to Franklin County, Pa., 12 to the Hagerstown area, one to the Boonsboro area and one to Clear Spring. Another 20 calls were in other areas such as Greensburg, Edgemont and Cavetown, Ulrich said.

Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services has responded to 614 calls this year, Ulrich said.
