Mail Call

August 10, 2010

"I've come to one conclusion: The Obama administration is a bigger bunch of liars than the Bush administration ever was. Both of them told lies, but President Obama is topping the list. He is doing everything to further his own agenda, whether we like it or not. It's plain to see. Anything that we don't like, if he likes it, it's OK. So he's not listening to the people."

- Sharpsburg

"Here we go again, the Brett Favre saga. Will he or won't he? Well, I'm not a betting man, but I'll cover any bets in this case that he will. But what really irritates me - the whole thing irritates me - but what really irritates me is, people try to get in touch with him and he won't answer the phone or Tweet or text or whatever, to confirm or deny. He loves the spotlight. He just can't get away from it."

"You can just bet there's a lot of outraged people about the County Commissioners giving $5,000 to a Little League. Come on, County Commissioners, get with it. People need jobs."

- Hagerstown

"This is concerning the recent escape at MCI-H. Instead of trying to burn the officers every time something happens, they need to find the person that had all the cutbacks in the personnel down there, for one thing, and fire them. They need to start with the administration, then they need to go to headquarters ... I think it's time administration and headquarters takes ... everybody that works down there is getting fed up with officers getting blamed for it."

- Hagerstown

"I'm calling because I read the article in the paper where our soldiers need toilet paper and batteries. I'd like to know if the man, that preacher in Sharpsburg, would put another article in the papers stating where people like us could help him."

- Hagerstown

"I am appalled that the County Commissioners have not made curbside recycling a priority on their agenda. If they don't know how to provide this, may I suggest that they take a short trip across the river to Jefferson County, W.Va., where they have had curbside recycling for more than 20 years."

- Washington County

"The people in Maryland will vote for O'Malley and Mikulski, and then they'll continue to complain about the taxes going up, and West Virginia will vote for Manchin, and West Virginia will remain last, like they've always been all these years."

- Shepherdstown, W.Va.

"To the caller last week that said President Obama wasn't doing anything about the border, but neither did President Bush: Well, I beg to differ, because President Bush did start the wall - and when Pelosi took over she stopped funds for it. So anyway, he did send more people down there on the border to guard, and he did get into some high-tech equipment to detect when the people were coming over. So right, wrong or indifferent, at least he tried."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"Well, it's that time again. The last couple of weeks, the stink bugs have been coming in to lighting on the windows in the house. So you can look forward to the deluge of them again this year and this fall."

- Hagerstown

"Yes, like I was saying, it's not right for county residents that are hooked to city water and sewer to get their bills raised, when the city turns around and wants to borrow money from the county to build parking decks. Come on, why use my tax dollars in the county to build something downtown for colleges? I'm an older man, I own my home ... They appraised my taxes at more than what my property is appraised at. I'm being double taxed. That's not right."

- Washington County

"Now I find it hard to think that cloud seeding is the cause, but I can remember many hail storms and heavy thunderstorms most every summer, but there were summers with little rain. When is the last time you remember a heavy hail storm in the summer? It's been many years. It may just be the weather. Stupid, but something has changed over the years and the orchards are benefiting."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"Listen, friends, we are becoming a lawless country. Why else do government officials pass laws they don't read and were probably written by their staff? Some don't pay taxes ... and their pitiful excuses about having forgotten or - even worse - they didn't know they owed them, indicates they aren't fit to make laws. ... Let's clean the D.C. swamp and elect ex-military men and women to replace them. After all, they risked their lives so we would have the privilege to do just that."

- Hagerstown

"I hope after the employees at Washington County Hospital move to Meritus Medical Center that the VA would consider making the building a Washington County VA hospital. We have no VA hospital between West Virginia and Baltimore, and it'd be a great opportunity for a lot of unemployed people to get a job. And everything's already there, not just for VA people but for the families. You have the LVRP, the OR, cafeteria, etc."

- Washington County
