Public invited to learn more about development district at Old Standard Quarry

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. --The Jefferson County Commission invites the public to learn more about the recently approved Brownfield Economic Development District at Old Standard Quarry near Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

In March 2009, the West Virginia Department of Commerce approved an application for a Brownfield Economic Development District at the quarry, including 29 office buildings, a first-class hotel, an extended-stay hotel, a computer data center and the wastewater treatment plant, which is adjacent to the quarry lake.

The Jefferson County Commission is sponsoring two meetings about the development proposal.

The first will be Monday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the commission's meeting room at the Old Charles Town Library, 200 E. Washington St.

The approved proposal is available for the public to review. The meeting is meant to help the public learn more about what has been approved by the Department of Commerce. Representatives of the state House of Delegates and state Senate are expected to attend.

On Thursday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m., the commission will discuss with legislators the comments from the open house.

Members of the public are invited to attend both meetings.
